Target
Decarbonize the built environment and promote the integration of renewable energy through self-consumption and energy communities, promoting multi-level urban governance and innovative financing models (particularly for vulnerable households) in these seven mission cities.
7 Spanish cities
Seven Spanish cities have decided to act in response to the growing threat of climate change. Thus was born URBANEW, a mission driven by the Mission Cities to transform urban environments by rehabilitating what has already been built, reducing emissions and generating a new way of living in cities.
To make this possible, a network of Super-Technicians, professionals with extraordinary skills in sustainability, regeneration and energy efficiency, joined forces to shape replicable, high-impact solutions.
Today this movement is growing in Europe and beyond, and the legacy that the seven cities started continues.
Planned activities
The planned activities will be tested simultaneously in seven cities, in various climatic and socioeconomic contexts. Lessons learned will provide a complete picture of this pilot, with in-depth diagnostics to better understand the barriers and levers to decarbonize the built environment and integrate renewables.
